Cannot Recommend - Deceptive Sales Practices, Poor Quality, Broken Promises
I'm sharing my Blue Haven Pools experience because a pool is a significant investment. Short version: their salesperson made verbal promises that never appeared in the contract, I was abandoned mid-project, quality was poor, and I'm now paying other contractors to fix their work rather than use the warranty. **Sales Process** Salesperson Juan G. came to our home. I was specific with what I wanted: electrical to backyard for lighting, autofill port, and fix what was disrupted after construction. Juan assured me these were handled. When I reviewed the contract and they weren't listed, I asked directly. He said electrical and autofill were "included as part of pool equipment" and sod was standard practice. Sounded reasonable, so I signed. **How I Know This Was Deliberate** After construction started and quality problems mounted, I emailed management threatening to terminate the contract and hire another company. Only then did they agree to install electrical at Blue Haven's expense and split autofill cost (I paid half). If these were "included" like Juan said, why did it take a termination threat? They weren't - they were damage control. Sod? Same promise, refused. Difference? They had the final payment by this time so I had no leverage. Other Blue Haven employees' reactions suggested I wasn't the first and that Juan had done this before. **Project Management** Original PM Steve was terminated mid-project. Replacement PM was absent for a month, then left. After that, no one. I never saw another PM and my project was never closed. It was abandoned. They didn't hit a single timeline milestone except dig. Weeks and months passed with no work, zero communication. I never knew what was happening or going to happen until someone showed up. **Quality** Workers hit a 4" pipe during excavation. Instead of calling the city, they had me flush the toilet to "check" if it was sewer, then capped it. Still don't know what it was. they never called the city to verify. French drain was destroyed and encased in concrete during the footer pour. They also exposed the foundation and left a downspout open which poured water on it for a few days. I had to have a foundation specialist come out to inspect/repair. Tile work sloppy - I'm still cleaning/repairing grout months later. Pavers torn up and re-laid due to poor quality - still cracked/chipped throughout, installed without base or polymeric sand - regular sand they used has washed away. Coping has saw mark/scratches - noted multiple times - never corrected. No acid wash before plastering - told "it's fine." Pock marks throughout plaster after curing. **Paying Twice Rather Than Use Warranty** I've hired other contractors to fix pavers and coping. i don't trust Blue Haven after this. I'd rather pay twice than risk them making it worse. Emailed about plaster problems (pocking) and buying pavers - ignored. Warranty means nothing if they won't respond. **Who Tried** Mike C. listened after I threatened to walk - only reason I didn't fire them. Screen contractor (Shawn) did excellent work. Pool specialist (Dave) was knowledgeable, he clearly disappointed with quality of the install. **Blue Haven's Response** Their Director said Juan denied promises, accused me of threatening legal action, offered $1,000 for full release and non-disparagement. I Declined. **My Mistakes** I trusted their verbal promises. I didn't read the clauses as carefully as I should have. Ignored Poor reviews. I didn't check references. **The Reality** Blue Haven has a system where salespeople make verbal promises not in contracts, then cite clauses when you complain. Ethically reprehensible. When you'd rather pay another contractor than use the warranty, that says everything. The pool is done but I'm concerned about the plaster. Deceptive sales tactics, project abandonment, poor quality, ghosting - I can't recommend them at all and would never use them again. Get everything in writing. Read every clause. Check references. Don't trust verbal promises.
