Bad Edge from factory
During a recent vacation, I visited Smoky Mountain Knife Works with the intention of purchasing a new everyday‑carry pocket knife. As a Marine veteran, I was particularly interested in the Case USMC Stockman. However, when the salesperson handed me the knife and I opened the blades to inspect the factory edge, I was genuinely surprised by the condition. The edge was extremely rough and appeared unfinished. Since there were two in stock, I asked to examine the second one as well. Unfortunately, it was in even worse condition, with a noticeably rolled edge and an overall lack of proper finishing. This was far below the level of quality I have come to expect from Case. I own several Case knives and have never encountered issues like this in the past. It has been several years since I last purchased a new Case knife, and I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident rather than a sign of declining quality control. I am grateful that I inspected the knives before purchasing, as discovering that level of edge damage after getting home would have been extremely disappointing—especially on a knife priced around $70. Ultimately, I chose not to purchase either Stockman and instead left with a Boker of similar cost, which came properly sharpened and ready for use.
