Customer service is abysmal. Cashiers are texting on their phones while checking customers out (literally stopping in the middle of scanning to check and return a text). They are rude and don't speak to you, don't care if something is the wrong price, slam your produce around, etc. Safeway has a huge issue with pricing. The sale prices on the signs in the store do not show up on the register and they never have enough cashiers (even pre-pandemic) so you either have to overpay or put items you need back. They don't offer to check the price (or sometimes refuse if you ask), and I often don't want to hold up everyone else because the store is not properly staffed. The worst locations are the ones on Nutley and Braddock Road in Fairfax.

Safeway pharmacy on Rucker is a joke. When I have refills they say I don't. I call my Dr.they say there are refills for 3 months. If safeway pharmacy didn't have such a turn over of employee's I'm sure it would be back to normal. But they have a stupid new pc system and new assistants that nothing is normal and I as many other elderly are without medication due to their incompetent lack of work ethic. If I could go to another pharmacy I would. In my situation and health I need to be close to everything so I must endure idiocy of safeway pharmacy employees. In which they used to be a great pharmacy until a year or two ago is when it started slipping into incompetence.

This is an ongoing problem. I find many items out of stock, particularly after the weekends or around holidays. e.g., no cream cheese, just buffalo style, whatever that is. Bread shelves are wiped out and it goes on and on. You can never count on them having things in stock.

Overpriced and really poorly staffed. Items here are up to a third more expensive than other markets. The employees are about as low rent and unwelcoming as any place I’ve ever shopped. I asked a worker how to ring up ice at self checkout and she replied “I can’t figure it out just go to customer service”. So I had to make a second transaction after finding someone who knew where they keep the ice. The employee who assisted (begrudgingly with an attitude) rings up a $8 bag of ice. Seriously? Even their smaller bag is $5.

I go to a Safeway close to me in a pinch but I also do use their Pharmacy because the pharmacist is a friend and I can get good service for the pharmacy. The store itself however is very disappointing. The self-checkouts don't work half the time, instead of speeding up the checkout process they slow it down. There are often items out of date and the shelves are not well stocked. Also the store staff at the self-checkouts is very rude. This store is located in zip code 21076.
