Built on decades of industry experience, innovation and inspiration, 4Change Energy is a company founded on the idea that electricity should be affordable and contribute to where you live. With headquarters in Texas, we're regulated and certified by the Public Utility Commission (PUC). There's no change to the company who's been delivering your power and responding to outages for as long as you've had electricity, so the service stays the same. And since our corporate parent is a multi-billion dollar energy company, you know it's experience you can trust. In creating 4Change Energy, we set out to give you more than an electric company. We wanted to create a personal connection between us and our customers. We wanted to give you a reason to stay for a long time. And we wanted to create something different. For us? That means doing something that's good for your wallet and your neighbors. It means shaving every cost possible so we can give you low prices, the service you need, and support our communities with a helping hand. You win and your neighbors win.

The EFL is misleading—it even fooled ChatGPT
The EFL is misleading—it even fooled ChatGPT! 🙂
While researching and comparing providers at renewal, it recommended 4Change Energy based on the EFL showing 22.2¢/kWh at 500 kWh, 9.2¢ at 1,000 kWh, and 15.2¢ at 2,000 kWh.
But the 9.2¢ rate is driven by a $125 credit that applies only above 999 kWh. At 999 kWh, you’re effectively paying about 21.6¢/kWh with current CenterPoint TDU charges. The actual energy charge is 15.229¢/kWh, with TDU charges passed through separately.
The EFL should clearly show the cost at 999 kWh. Highlighting 9.2¢ at exactly 1,000 kWh, without showing the sharp increase just below that threshold (winter months), gives consumers a misleading picture.
Further, its per-kWh benefit declines as usage increases (summer months). With current CenterPoint charges, the effective rate is about 16.64¢ at 2,500 kWh and 17.47¢ at 3,000 kWh. The plan’s maximum benefit is concentrated roughly in the 1,000–1,500 kWh range.
The structure may be legal, but I find it deceptive and not consumer-friendly. When comparing plans, don’t rely on the advertised average rate—calculate the actual monthly cost using your month-by-month usage, not your annual average.
I’m also surprised by the number of 5-star reviews on google. I’d be curious to know whether other providers under Value Based Brands, 4Change Energy’s parent company, use a similar pricing structure.

Zenoroopa - Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concerns regarding usage bill-credit plans and how rates are displayed on the EFL. We encourage customers to review plan details and compare options based on their actual monthly usage. We appreciate you sharing your experience.

I had fallen behind on my payment and…
I had fallen behind on my payment and tried to pay my bill online, but the system wouldn't allow it; when I called customer service, the representative kept giving me addresses in Austin where I could pay in person. When I stated that I wanted to make the payment—including the late fee—online, I was informed that online payment options are disabled for subscribers with overdue bills and that I had to visit the office to pay in person. Frankly, I thought they were joking; when I asked, "Are you serious?" they replied, "Yes, unfortunately, I cannot accept your payment online," and reiterated that I needed to go to the office to settle the bill. To be honest, 4Change is nothing more than a company that penalizes its subscribers using ridiculous methods; I switched to another provider solely because of these absurd practices, even though my contract was still active.

Hi Ammar, sorry to hear about your experience. We’d like to review your plan details and billing period to confirm the agreed rate and see what may have caused the higher bill (including usage and any delivery/utility charges). Please email your account/contact info to [email protected], and we’ll look into it right away.

4Change Energy company is a scam!!!
This company is a scam which deserves 0 stars and a police report! They pulled a bait and switch on me after signing up with their company through Choose Texas Power. I was offered a plan for .7 cents but when I got a bill 6 days later after signing up the bill was $102 for a higher rate. I never had a company bill me within 6 days. By billing me in 6 days, they were able to charge me a higher rate due to not meeting the minimum watt and didn't recieve the bill credit promised in the promo at sign up. Within the same month, I received another bill for almost $400! I haven't been with the company for a month but recieved 2 bills. I was charged a $125 delivery fee on this bill plus other large fees. I called the company and they were no help. I immediately choose another company because I had 60 days to cancel without having to pay the termination fee. Within days, they sent another bill which was extremely high as well. A rep called me trying to convince me to switch back to their company but I refused because he was gaslighting me the whole call trying to justify scamming me. He got annoyed and disconnected the call because he didn't want to hear my truth or help me resolve the problem. I am so upset because they scammed me and now I am forced to pay or risk them destroying my perfect credit. They call me daily harassing me. I plan to report them to all higher authorities. My new company does not charge all of the fees that 4Change Energy charged me for 1 month of service. My new company didn't send me a bill after days of service like 4Change Energy did. How is this legal?

SJ, we’re sorry to hear about your experience. Billing timing and pricing can be affected by meter read cycles, usage levels, and whether any promotional bill credits or minimum-usage requirements were met, but we understand how frustrating this feels—especially when charges are unexpected.
Please email your account/contact info to [email protected] so we can review your enrollment details, the EFL/plan terms, and each charge on the bills (including delivery/TDU fees) and confirm everything was applied correctly. If anything is incorrect, we’ll work to make it right.

If I could give ZERO STARS I would!!
If I could give ZERO STARS I would!!! I have been a cirro energy customer for six years. A few months ago my bill was $250 with cirro. That’s the highest bill I ever had with them so I reached out to 4Change Energy to switch service. They told me I was on their best plan. That with their rebate, my bill would only be about $180 a month. Which it was for the first two months. All of a sudden it jumped up to $300. And my most recent bill was $450. I called cirro yesterday to switch back. Today 4change sent a bill for $700. SCAM DO NOT USE

4Change please do right by your customers
I originally raved to my friends about how easy 4Change Energy was to sign up for, how user-friendly their portal was, and how simple it was to get started. Our electric bills were also significantly lower than they had been with our previous provider (Frontier), so I was very pleased with the company—until it was time for us to move.
That’s when my experience completely changed.
We moved out of our apartment on June 28th and are still receiving bills for electricity at an apartment we no longer live in. We signed up for a 12-month plan, and 4Change clearly knew the terms of our agreement because we received multiple emails regarding our contract expiration date and the renewal options available to us.
When I called to dispute the charges after moving out, however, I was told that it was my responsibility as the customer to cancel the service, despite the fact that I only signed up for a 12-month plan and had fulfilled the lease term associated with the apartment.
To me, this is extremely frustrating and feels like a deceptive and unnecessarily complicated practice. If customers are signing up for a specific contract term, the process for what happens at the end of that term should be made extremely clear—not something customers have to discover after they move out and continue receiving bills.
We currently have an open case under review, and I genuinely hope 4Change does the right thing by its customer and takes this opportunity to improve its practices before, during, and after service. Up until this point, working with them had been relatively hassle-free, which makes this experience even more disappointing.
I also want to mention that I found some of the customer service representatives very difficult to understand over the phone. I had to ask one representative to slow down because I was having difficulty understanding them. Clear communication is especially important when you're trying to resolve a billing dispute.
I really wish I had known about these issues before signing up, so I'm sharing my experience in hopes that it helps someone else make a more informed decision.
At this point, I strongly recommend people think twice before signing up with 4Change Energy.
You live, and you learn. Do your research before signing up. 4Change, please do right by your customers; we are why your business exists!
If this issue isn't resolved, I will be reaching out to PUCT (Public Utility Commission of Texas) as well. I recommend anyone with issues do the same.
