I should have listened to the reviews
I should have listened to the reviews. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED! One of the Worst Banking Experiences Imaginable If you’re looking for a bank that combines incompetent customer service, unprofessional representatives, and an almost impressive commitment to being absolutely no help whatsoever, look no further than Alliant Credit Union. My Fortune 500 employer offered bank accounts through this financial institution for all of its employees for “better financial wellness.” After this week, I’m scheduling an appointment with HR to discuss their definition of “financial wellness” because Alliant Credit Union ain’t it. Not even in the slightest sense of the term. The customer service at this institution is nothing short of appalling. The representatives are unprofessional, seemingly unfamiliar with the very BASIC services they’re supposed to support, and astonishingly ill-equipped to answer those basic questions. Getting accurate information is like playing a game of telephone with troglodytes who have yet to discover fire. What truly sets this bank apart, however, is the enthusiasm with which its employees manage to avoid helping customers. You would think assisting someone with a legitimate concern would be the bare minimum expectation of a customer service department. Apparently, that’s asking too much. Especially for new customer referrals from corporations that I’d assume are getting kickbacks. Instead, you’re met with deflection, confusion, indifference, and the distinct impression that your presence is an inconvenience to people whose literal job is to assist you. There is a difference between not knowing an answer and not caring enough to find one. Unfortunately, Alliant seems to have perfected both. Rather than taking ownership of an issue, finding a solution, or even demonstrating basic professionalism, the customer service experience leaves you wondering how these individuals were entrusted with representing a financial institution in the first place. Banking requires trust, competence, and accountability. When customers cannot get straightforward answers or reasonable assistance from the people supposedly there to help them, that trust quickly evaporates. My recommendation? Take your money somewhere that values you as a customer. I only attempted to open an account for “emergency” purposes. If this is the level of ineptitude one gets, I can only imagine how bad the lives are for those who are contractually obligated to them for any substantial amount of time. There are plenty of banks that understand customer service is not an optional courtesy but a fundamental part of doing business. Based on my experience, Alliant has a great deal to learn about that concept. I would give this bank zero stars if the rating system allowed it. The only thing more disappointing than the service itself is the realization that the people responsible for fixing the problem may be just as much of a problem as the institution they represent.
