As far as this writer is aware, the Arbor Day Foundation seems suspect to me because of the following reason: Here in Myrtle Beach/Horry County, SC, developers (with county approvals) are taking trees down daily to deforest the area to build high density housing. Why would this foundation desire donations for more trees when the trees are disappearing so quickly? It may be a scam, but that is my humble opinion. Thank you.

I did not receive my trees and couldn’t reach anybody at the foundation.

You will not receive trees once you order. I received a message saying my trees had been shipped, the status did not change for over a month. They offered replacements, which now says the trees will be shipped in a month? What a scam.

Stick, they sent me sticks. One stick per tree.

They have sent me over 15 bareroot trees and all have survived. You do have to wait 4 to 6 months for delivery because they will only send them when the tree will survive the journey and transplant.

I was initially excited to receive a questionnaire, hoping that I could send in information about the trees in my area as many seem to be struggling. Alas, the questions are fluff about my feelings regarding trees and could not possibly be of any conservation use. Also the trees they offer as a “free” gift (in exchange for a donation, of course) are either invasive or native to an area thousands of miles away. Any organization that responsibly reforests would know better. ‘Tis a scam. If you care about trees: learn about the natives to your area, find healthy specimens while you’re out and about, and spread their seeds.
