Shareholders win, patients lose
I've been working toward getting surgery and BLBS decided, as soon as my deductible was met, to be smarter than my doctor and deny necessary pre-op medication. My doc had to appeal (which took a month). Then went to an "authorized" infusion center (BCBS had requirements) and had to get pre-authorized again (took a week). So, because BCBS thought they were smarter than the doctors, it took almost 2 extra months (and now we're nearing the end of the year) to get scheduled for surgery. It's all about money to them. I pay over $500/mo for insurance and they are definitely not looking out for the patients, but they are looking out for their shareholders.
