Absolutely terrible customer service! I made an account, when I tried to log in and pay my bill it was asking my account number which I suppose to get in my paper bill which I got five months later, so they charged me for all those five months and extra 250$ fees! When I called to customer service they said they had some kind of issue with the department which sending bills, so I had to pay for someone else mistake and terrible job, people like that have to be replaced with ai as soon as possible, because it’s not ok!

Defective Smart Meters, Uncalibrated Replacements, and Dangerous Incompetence
If I could give zero stars, I would. CenterPoint Energy is installing defective, uncalibrated smart meters and trying to bill consumers for phantom electricity.
My nightmare started when my bill spiked to $1,718. I proved the old meter was broken by turning off my MAIN BREAKER—with zero power flowing to my house, the meter still recorded 133 kWh and showed an rE9 error code.
CenterPoint sent a technician to "fix" it. The technician pulled an unboxed meter out of his truck (not a factory-sealed box), carried it loosely by hand, and when I asked if it was calibrated, he admitted it was NOT.
Three days later, the new meter is STILL throwing the same rE9 and SYNC nEt error codes. Even worse: my AC is set to 83°F, yet this new meter claims I used 113 kWh in a single day (a continuous 4,700-watt draw). This is physically impossible for my home and proves their equipment is completely unreliable.
CenterPoint is putting uncalibrated, malfunctioning equipment on homes and exposing consumers to fraudulent billing and potential electrical hazards. I have filed complaints with the PUCT and BBB. Avoid this company at all costs.
(Attach the photos of the meter showing rE9, SYNC nEt, and the blank screens here)

lost a whole day waiting for a technician who never showed
I received a notice that my gas was shut off, and was given a number to call to have service restored. I called on Friday and asked if could get someone to come out Sunday morning. I was told someone would come between 8:00 Am and 12:00 pm. I was supposed to receive a call 30 minutes before a technician would come. 12:00 noon comes and goes, no call, no technician. I call back to find out what's going on. I'm assured that I'm on the schedule and someone would come. I call back every 2 hours to find out what's going on. Each time the person reads the same script to me. I'm on the schedule and someone would get to my by midnight. Even at 10:30pm they were still telling me that same lie. At 12:30 AM I point out that it's after midnight an no one came. So I'm told not worry, they'll put me on a priority list and someone will come out on Monday between 8:00 AM - 12:00PM
The customer service agents are trained to lie, even when there is no reason to. They could have just been honest with me at any point on Sunday, andsimply told me that no one would be coming out. Instead they are telling me that because of the whether they have unexpected emergency calls. The weather was beautiful, so the only reason weather was a factor was that the technicians didn't want to work on such a nice day.
This company is run by dishonest and immoral people who lie purely for the joy of ruining people's day.

In 2026 it is absurd to still have 12 hr service window. If a company gives me a 4 hr window I still complain. Companies like xfinity and At&t are giving 2 hr windows.
Monopolies are not good

Centerpoint and Billing Transparancy online
Centerpoint needs to be more transparent on the web platform for billing AND I believe they have errors. On the platform, there is not a way to view account history such as former bills and payments. I looked at my credit card statement and I did pay the bill for June yet they are saying there has not been a payment since May. You cannot see the account payments with a date range online. Of course they are closed Sunday when I am paying my bill and I cannot speak to a rep. Absolutely ridiculous.

I Have been with CenterPoint energy for…
I Have been with CenterPoint energy for 3 years. Today my gas was shut off. I learned that back in January my automatic payment was declined, Center Point then turned off all future automatic payments. I was unaware of this. I learned today that there was no phone number or email associated with my account. My account had not been paid since January because they turned my automatic payments off. What company turns off automatic payments without notice? What company establishes any account without a phone number linked to the account?
