About these reviews

As you can see in the CEO's response to Victorinox's review, this company's customer service is absolutely terrible. Not only have they taken $29.99 for another year of worthless membership, but now they have also made false and defamatory statements against their customers. The customers here did not forget about the membership, they simply stopped using it because it was worthless, and they were able to sell their Funkos/collectibles outside of this company's platform.
Also, the only reason this CEO received a phone call from the customers was because his personal phone number was carelessly placed on a public website showing it as a public contact number for the company. It is obvious that he "took time" to answer the call not because he cared about the customers' legitimate concerns, but because he was surprised to receive the call. This company does not provide a dedicated customer service phone number for concerns, complaints, or escalations. The customers even emailed the staff member in billing beforehand for contact information to talk to a supervisor, but none was provided. These customers were looking for help, and instead were provided with uncaring responses from staff members and now false, defamatory, and defensive statements from the CEO. This company is now advised to cease and desist any further false and defamatory statements against these customers including on this review platform and any other forum.

Beware of this Company and their Membership Service!
Horrible experience with this company and their membership service! Beware of their auto-renewal membership service! We tried writing to them to cancel and refund the auto-renewal charge the same morning it was initiated and before it posted, and they flat out refused to cancel and/refund the auto-renewal charge. They also do not offer a direct customer service phone number for complaints, concerns, or escalations. However, when I tried calling a publicly available phone number for the company, it was answered by the company's CEO who said that he would talk to the company's person in billing about this the next morning. Nothing has been done to fix this, and now they have imposed a worthless membership subscription on us for another year! Terrible customer service!! This is exactly why we didn't want to renew and why we will never be supporting this company again!! Don't waste your money with this company!

You subscribed, you then forgot to cancel for a full year and when your membership was renewed you contacted our Support about it and we informed you that we do not refund subscriptions (see here https://help.hobbydb.com/support/solutions/articles/36000576971-manage-your-premium-membership - all auto-renewal sales are final . Not sure what is horrible about that.
You then found my number and called me on a Sunday afternoon and I took the time to speak to you and explained to you (again) that we have a policy in place and would be unlikely to change it - but that I would ask and get back to you after that conversation. You then went straight ahead and posted this complaint on Monday morning. Pretty unreasonable if you ask me.

HobbyDB Email Service Rude
HobbyDB Customer Service Rude , Unprofessional & Immature-
April 23rd- I received an invite from HobbyDB asking me to come back as a premium member for only half the price at $14.99 . So I logged into my HobbyDB account , and then click on their offer and pay the $14.99.
April 29th- Just 5 days after paying for a yearly premium membership. When I attempt to log into my 1 and only 1 HobbyDB account , it states that I do not have a premium membership . Hmmmmm , So I assume that my Credit Card payment didn't go thru for some reason and so I decide to pay yet again. So I click the special offer link again , and again pay for the yearly premium membership , using the same exact credit card that I had used back on April 23rd . Immediately I get premium access.
Now , Just to make sure I didn't get charged twice for the same subscription I decided to check my CC and make sure . But when I check I find that my credit card purchase back on April 23rd not only was charged....but it posted
Great , So the April 23rd payment posted , and then I just now made a payment for the same amount and account, so now I call my credit card , explain the situation , and they cancel one of the 2 payments.....and rightfully so.
After this mistake was cleared up with my CC , I then send a courtesy email to HobbyDB just to let them know what had happened.
You would think that I would get a THANK YOU for reaching out to us
But no , that email sparked 3 days of HobbyDB arguing with me stating that I only paid 1 time. Even though I sent NUMEROUS SCREENSHOTS showing my CC statement. Then after 3 days back and forth of them wanting me to jump thru hoops and prove myself ( WHICH I DID) and rather than them apologizing for their systems premium login issue , that kicked this whole issue off in the first place , Did they finally & only admit to receiving my 2 payments after the fact that they themselves , without me asking for , closed my account for no reason whatsoever . Then invited me back ?! Never once was I treated courteously , in fact it was all pretty disrespectful . And even though I included my contact number so that they could call me directly ( RATHER THAN AN UNLIMITED EMAIL CHAIN) I offered them a 3way call with my CC company. I was ignored each and every time. Not what I expected from HobbyDB's customer service......................UPDATE - After reading the response from this company I am utterly appalled at their blatant lies , #1 " Unfortunately this user then also filed a PayPal claim ".......This is just aflat out lie on their behalf , I paid with my CC therefore I only needed to make 1 call to get the situation resolved , AND THAT WAS TO MY CREDIT CARD ONLY , I never reached out to " Paypal " in any sort of way.........................#2 " After multiple aggressive emails .... " I reached out to them as a COURTESY to inform them why I had canceled 1 of my 2 accidental payments . I did this as a courtesy and did not owe them a heads up . Only After multiple emails from them denying that 2 payments existed , after ignoring my multiple pleads for them to call me rather than sending ridiculous emails back and forth , did I finally have enough of their incompentcy . I told them a family member had just died , that I didn't have time for this , and that I was just giving them a heads up and wasn't looking for a long term back and forth relationship from them . They couldn't care less as they CONTINUED to send ridiculous emails , and accusations. Now , After reading their response if they would like to continue to LIE as they did in their response , then by all means we can definitely get PAYPAL involved and see which one of us is truly lying here . They claim I filed a claim with paypal / I claim that not only did I not file a claim with Paypal , but I never even reached out to paypal in any matter. Put your money where your mouth is ! It all came down to an incompetent employee/owner that simply made multiple mistakes , and rather than just own up to it , they doubled down by lying , and harassing a customer that was dealing with a death in the family . Although we're sad to see a 1 star review, we really tried our best to help this member. We received a message from them saying that they had paid for two Subscription memberships and would like help with ensuring that one of the Subs was canceled. We of course investigated and found only one charge in our system under the payment details that they provided. They then confirmed that they were able to get a full refund from their Credit Card company for the second charge. Unfortunately this user then also filed a PayPal claim for the original charge that we had successfully received for their membership. We asked the member to cancel their claim so that we could receive the funds for their membership and they refused to do so.
After multiple aggressive emails from this member and the lack of willingness to cancel their dispute, we decided that it was best to resolve the claim and therefore refunded their purchase and canceled their subscription. We explained that we would honor the original deal that they signed up for (which was 50% off) if they wanted to sign up again, but instead we received multiple disrespectful emails to our support team with more complaints.
We protect our team from uncalled for and rude messages, which is why we had to cut ties with this user in the end. We're always here to help, but not at the expense of our hard working, kind support team. We wish the member all the best and will be here if they change their mind in the future.

Paywall for absolutely crap services
Paywall for absolutely crap services. Hope they finish rotting.

Hey there! We're sorry to hear that you are not loving the idea of Premium. Just so you know, the entire database, price guide, collection management, blog, and more are still free. We had to introduce Premium for some services to ensure we were able to continue serving the community for the long haul. We've made a lot of improvements, especially to our App (also free to use).

There's got to be a better collector site than this rubbish.
Their tagline, 'built by collectors for collectors' should be changed to "built by whiny douchebags" because for all my interactions I had with them, that's always how they came across.
I'd been with them for several years back when it was simply Pop Price Guide, but alas it had to be absorbed into some Marxist hellhole that somehow coexists with capitalist values as "We need your money, but you'll do it our way!" Um ok, sure.
So now if you want to access their site just to even look at your own collection you'll need to subscribe and their whinging doctrine will tell you that there's simply no other way. $47 odd dollars, after being subjected to a U.S exchange rate, just to keep tabs on a collection that I actually spent weeks to establish on the site, but yeah, I guess the cost of soy lattes had gone up.
I previously contacted them several times over obvious flaws in their pricing calculations and questioned why some pop vinyls that had been out for years still had no hint of value and the reply was more whining about how they're only a small team, they don't have resources, they can't do this, can't do that, not sure what day it is and on and on etc.
If that's the case, why bother assimilating other sites and taking on so much if you lack the resources to control it properly? Why not just keep the status quo? It seems resistance really is futile. I'm sure I'll get some whiny reply that'll attempt to explain such a poor executive decision. I'll look forward to ignoring it.
In any case I thought I'd help them out initially and sent them a lengthy email outlining the average cost of several pops that were at that point valueless on the site and pointed to my sources for the costs I had provided. Rather than doing any research themselves to confirm my findings or do any work at all, I was told that they're unable to accept anything I sent on this matter as I was not officially part of the chosen ones and I'd need to "officially" join the team of Jedi's or something. Really? With chantings of 'one of us, one of us' circling my mind, I'm not sure how the info provided would be any different in any stretch of the imagination and it could be easily verified if someone there was capable of using a computer and examining the info as presented but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Even the usurpers don't like being usurped it seems.
Next came the site issues as HobbyDB started to slowly sink into the mire of inadequacy and even a simple matter of signing in became an old testament plague to ones sanity. The site was supposed to remember you for 30 days, why only 30? Don't know! But after you signed in you had to go back and choose their 30 day option, at which point the site will patronise you and point out that you've already signed in. But wait for it; if however, you then wanted to check your collection from highest to lowest or from A-Z, guess what? You'd have to sign in again. Fastest & worst 30 days ever.
Several emails venting my frustrations about this was reversed back on to me as the Mensa team at HobbyDB was adamant that it couldn't possibly be an issue at their end, how dare such a thing be suggested "A pox on thy house"! It's obviously something I'm doing wrong, or it's my device, or I've been gypsy cursed.
Worse still was their god-awful Captcha nonsense which every reasonable person hates, as humans confirming that they're human seems a lot like a Salem witch trial. If you're human, Captcha will send you insane, if not, clearly you're a robot.
And then well a lot of us hit a wall didn't we and reading between the lines of their whiny rhetoric, it pointed out "we can't, we can't we can't....." What can they do you ask? Don't know!
So I thought I'd try a subscription under the guise of 'give a little, get a little' but instead what I got was another headache as despite me giving them my credit details, they somehow decide to take money from somewhere else and as that account, which I no longer use didn't have enough in it, their system defaulted to another account that they had no authorisation accessing and syphoned money from there. Now I can already picture the reply I'll get that "they didn't, they can't or they wouldn't" but I can assure all who are reading this that - they did - they can and they would.
Nevertheless I'd had enough of them by this point, I'd deleted the account, so I've lost all info on my pop collection, the money will be refunded, if not by HobbyDB, then by the bank, so you'll have to find others to fund your gluten free muffins. Good luck and good riddance, I look forward to the cut and paste whiny reply I'm sure to get.
PS - The reply just says it all. 5 months to reply and that's what they come up with. It's exactly what happened and you can portray me as an insane person as much as you like, but I know what happened. The fact you've just ignored everything else says a lot!

I would normally reply but do not even know where to start here. This gentleman is just insane (just read it, for example "despite me giving them my credit details, they somehow decide to take money from somewhere else and as that account, which I no longer use didn't have enough in it, their system defaulted to another account that they had no authorisation accessing and syphoned money from there"- that is not what happened...).

Hiding the dashboard behind a paywall…
Hiding the dashboard behind a paywall was a huge mistake. It's the main feature people use this site for. Sad to see the money hungry developers go down this hill.
Response from hobbyDB· Sep 10, 2024
We are not hiding any Dashboards. If you are referring to the Showcase we explained our rationale of why we cannot keep if free here - https://blog.hobbydb.com/2024/09/05/new-phase-for-hobbydb-begins-monday/. We have provided services to collectors for free for 10 years and just cannot do it anymore.
