Very Disappointed with ION Solar — Unfinished Installation and Poor Customer Service
Our experience with ION Solar has been extremely frustrating.
Our initial solar installation failed inspection, and the company has still not completed the necessary work. Appointments have repeatedly been canceled, and getting answers or reliable communication has been extremely difficult.
We expected a professional installation and dependable customer service. Instead, we have been left with an unfinished project, repeated delays, and little accountability for over 120 days!!!
I am sharing our experience so other homeowners will be aware of the problems we have encountered before signing a contract with ION Solar.
ION Solar, when will you finish our installation and provide a firm date for resolving these problems?

SCAM. RIP OFF.
First, it is ION Solar Colorado, not Oklahoma. Salesperson is friendly and convincing to your face. After the sale and you sign contract, it goes downhill. Almost a year went by while they evaluated and prepared and got permits before installation. They forget to tell you when they turn it on. WARNING! Once you sign, you are locked in forever. You can never cancel with them. No written request. No cancellation fees. They just refuse to do it. You are stuck. We rent the panels so we pay a flat rate per month. I got solar to get away from the high costs of our local energy company. I am now paying double what I used to pay before I contracted with ION. I am paying both ION AND the local energy company. ION did not anything better. They made it worse. They are a scam. They rip you off. Go to the Better Business Bureau and look at the list of approved and certified solar companies they have listed. ION is NOT one of them.

Extremely frustrating experience with Ion Solar
Extremely frustrating experience with ION Solar. We signed up nearly a year ago for a solar installation, and our project is still not completed. We’ve had repeated delays due to poor scheduling and project management, and our structural upgrades have failed inspection three times. The roof insulation has also failed inspection and still hasn’t passed.
We’ve been waiting four months for a service panel upgrade. Today, the utility company shut off our power for the scheduled work, only for ION Solar’s technician to arrive without the materials needed to complete the job. This has now delayed other projects we need to have done.
We feel completely stuck in a contract with a company that seems unable to successfully manage and complete the installation of the very product they specialize in. Nearly a year of delays, failed inspections, and poor communication is unacceptable. I would not recommend ION Solar based on our experience.

Ion Solar does not consistently communicate with customers
Ion Solar does not consistently communicate with its customers for post installation service issues. I’ve had the same issue now multiple times and they don’t communicate when they miss appointments, misdiagnose repairs, or follow up when they screw up.
My solar panels are structurally fine, but my solar gateway and inverter have not been working and it’s been over a month of them not fixing the problem, correctly.
I had to have a third-party electrician come in and tell me that the fuses they have in my installation aren’t correct. I have tried to communicate this issue with their service team multiple times and they have not fixed the issue.
Now I am dealing with solar panels on my roof that are not generating electricity, so I’m getting charged high electricity bills in the hottest part of the summer, along with a loan payment on the solar.
I do not recommend Ion Solar for their service.

Dishonest and Predatory Sales Tactics
We bought panels and went into service with Ion Solar on March 22, 2024. We paid for a 4,200 Watt system including 10 panels. We discussed that our roof would require replacement imminently, preferably in the next two to three months and that we were not interested in having to go through hurdles or extra costs to remove and replace the panels shortly after having them installed. We would rather wait, or go with a different company if this was not included. Our rep, McCallum Smith reassured us that this would be included and should not be a dealbreaker. Ion has not honored the lift and replace that was agreed-upon. After repeated calls and escalations, we have been told that a lift and replace would need to be listed in the contract and that they rarely do that, although we were told that it was Ion's policy.
We received a quote on June 18th, 2024, asking for $3,990 to remove the panels we just had installed two months prior. The rep, McCallum, who told us to call him if any issues arose, has since been fired from Ion. His manager let me know that she does not even have jurisdiction in Texas and was unaware of him offering that. It was the only reason we signed when we did, or with Ion at all.
The 'extras', which we were told the 'lift and replace' should have been included under, show lightbulbs and a thermostat (neither of which were asked for or ever received) and gives no indication that a service such as lift and replace would be included in there. Management/Customer Service has been repeatedly unhelpful after hours of phone calls. We even offered to buy more panels to make up for the inefficiency of what we were recommended. We cannot replace our roof (now more than a year overdue) without voiding the warranty on the panels, and we cannot add more panels without replacing the roof. We cannot afford to give 4000 more dollars for a lift and replace on top of a system that is already underserving our needs.
I've spoken with 6 different people on the phone in a variety of positions and each time I've been asked to explain the entire situation over again. Twice I have been offered a quote for a full roof replacement in their confusion. Their response through the Better Business Bureau is below:
"NO EMPLOYEE OR REPRESENTATIVE OF CONTRACTOR IS
AUTHORIZED TO MAKE ANY PROMISE TO YOU THAT IS NOT CONTAINED IN THIS AGREEMENT (WHICH
INCLUDES THE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION DOCUMENTS) CONCERNING COST SAVINGS, TAX
BENEFITS, OR GOVERNMENT OR UTILITY INCENTIVES. YOU SHOULD NOT RELY UPON ANY PROMISE
OR ESTIMATE THAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AGREEMENT."
The sales tactic was dishonest and predatory, and was easily
solved by any due diligence or transparency from our sales person, his manager (who let us know that most of what he told us was not correct to begin with), or any other Ion representative at any point during this process.
Ion's policy thus far has been that (in short form) we should not have believed their sales person and now that we've signed, we're "out of luck"- so take their advice and *do not buy from any of their sales people directly*. Do not sign anything until every single thing has been addressed and put in a document, and record all of your conversations.

DO NOT USE ION!
ION has terrible customer service - they say they hear your frustration but do not do anything about the issue. You cant get anyone to answer the phone and if your lucky you can call customer service number and they will transfer you numerous times. Our electric bill is still the same as before we had solar and when you call they say your system is operating fine and now they say we need more solar panels. Hello your engineers had a year worth of our bills and saw our use and designed the system. It is still only 2 of us living at the house and nothing has changed. This has also been reported to the Better Business Bureau who has also ignored the issue.

Horrible service..
Horrible service... Horrible customer service... Horribles installation with nothing but problems. Customer Service has disregarded all of our issues when we called, and didn't even note the complaints we had. I called to get a tech to fix a break thats' been happening for years. They just ghosted me with no response and told me to get a third party to look at it. been using them for yeras and it's just been horrible all the way around.

My energy bills went UP!!!
ION Solar is so incompetent that solar panels sat on my roof for 4 months without being approved for use. The 1st bill for my panel lease had to be paid IN ADDITION to the monthly energy bill! The Sales guy never gave any indication that my costs could go up. They lied to me about the status of the submitted application (they said more documents were requested when in reality the application was rejected!) and the Sales guy only repeated the typical time it takes to get approved - without actually doing anything to progress the matter. 16 weeks 'is unusual' he would say. Regret selecting ION Solar and do not recommend.
