Absolutely shocking! Took a full 6 months to get my passport!! Took at least 6 weeks before they let me know they needed additional documents which reset the time. Six weeks later they emailed to say I needed to re-upload my photo, not because it wasn't acceptable but because they had " upgraded" their system and in order for the new system to accept my photo I needed to re-upload it! This reset the time scale again through no fault of my own. Six weeks later, another email requesting my parents marriage certificate which they had already had and returned to me which put another six weeks on the clock! Absolutely disgraceful. If you're thinking about applying don't bother. Or maybe find yourself a decent forger. Will be a lot faster than the "service" offered by the passport office. It's so slow I think they only have 3 people working there.

Ordered passport on line followed all instructions including taking my own photo. Placed order on Friday , it was delivered Monday. Top marks

I requested 4 passports well within the predicted timescale advertised on the Irish passports website. As a Northern Irish citizen, myself and my children were eligible for an Irish passport and we opted for this due to ease of travel in the EU. The process was slow and frustrating. It wasn't until after their predicted release date that I realised our paperwork hadn't even been seen. In the end I opted to get some fasttrack British passports (at great expense) so that we could travel this summer and cancelled the Irish ones to get some money refunded and help with this unexpected payment. There was no email confirmation of the cancellation so I contacted again to confirm the cancellation. This was confirmed over the phone. One day before we were due to travel my children's passports arrived-` no refund for us! I cannot understand how this could happen when presumably all the details are processed on a computer system!!It was an extremely frustrating process. On several occasions I asked why they didn't update their predicted turnaround time. this would be a first step to communicating more transparently with customers! While I understand world politics has changed the pressures on the system I cannot understand why they do not change the goalposts or increase staffing to help deal with these issues.

Saw a lot of negative comments on here, but my service was brilliant. The passport arrived roughly 5 days after the estimation. Brand new applicant using parent born in Ireland link. Shipped on a Friday and delivered to me in England on the Monday morning. The key for me is making sure all of the documentation for a new passport is correct. I used a notary to sign my witness form, and stamp a photo copy of my other passport. I made sure all birth certificates were original too, no complaints whatsoever.

Terrible experience - staff in the passport office used to be exceptionally helpful. Not anymore. Useless at clarifying delivery times, very unsupportive and zero customer service. You’d almost forget that this is a service we pay for.

Can't rate them low enough. Took 2.5 months to even look at my son's passport application and then send an automated email stating that the photo wasn't suitable despite us following their guidance. Called and spoke to a woman, who was less than useless, who claimed that even if we used a professional photographer they would also probably reject it. Making us complete a whole application from scratch as well for no reason, whilst holding onto all our important documentation. Had to pay a fortune to get birth certs reissued and get a fast tracked UK passport.

Older person applying for passport renewal dreading the process. It was remarkably easy. Applied on the Monday and passport delivered on the following Saturday to UK.

if I could give it minus stars I would, its a absolute shambles. Applied for passports at the end of march, kids passports sent back no bother. Mine different story "we need more documents" sent more documents down "nope need more" send more down. Rang and spoke to the most horrible woman who laughed and said "Well tuff your not getting a Irish passport" screamed at me down the phone many times, to the point I had to ask her was I aloud to speak. wouldn't pass me to anyone higher up just laughed and thought it was so funny that I wasn't going to get my passport. Now being from the north i am 100% sure that she was discriminating against me. The complaints service won't let you leave a review if you have already submitted one about the delay so this womans behaviour is going unchecked.
