The person I talked to was very helpful and she put me at ease. i have never used or heard of needtags in the 28 years I worked for DMV i their computer support unit and neither has my coworkers. the one thing I can say is that the redirect from the DMV page to your page should not be as covert as it is

This was a great way to get my missing tags. However, I didn't do anything wrong. I paid my registration on time and then somehow never got my new stickers. I shouldn't have to pay $92.06 to replace something that I never got in the first place.

Beware of this company. I wanted to transfer an old car to my name and have it registered. I went into the DMV website but I was redirected to Needtags. I did not think too much about it because a lot of institutions do that where another company manages payments, etc. I paid the initial $149, thinking that covers all the costs, but apparently, it did not. There never really is transparency with the charges they give you. Today, I was charged a total of $590 in my account. I don’t know what the first payment was for, but if it was a processing fee, it is still exorbitant. The entire transfer and registration costs 445. Purchasing this car was a big step into a new life for me, but this is just unfortunate.

All fees are displayed to our customers prior to checkout, and we include the breakdown of the fees in the invoice we email you once your title transfer is processed... along with your instant DMV registration e-card download. NeedTags strives to provide full transparency. We are not the DMV and make absolutely no claims to that effect. NeedTags is in fact a delegated provider for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. On the header of every page of our website we display the following text, as per California Business Partner Automation requirements, “NOTICE: NeedTags has been officially licensed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to provide DMV services on their behalf. NeedTags is not owned or operated by any government agency and charges fees for value-add DMV services pursuant to CVC Section 1685.
