Extremely Disappointed
Our family rented a beach house through Resort Realty from July 11–18, 2026, and the experience was unacceptable from both a property and customer service standpoint. During our stay, the home's septic system failed, causing raw sewage to back up into the downstairs bathroom and foyer. We spent part of our vacation cleaning up raw sewage ourselves after it entered the house. According to the maintenance staff, this was not a new problem and had occurred at the property before. For approximately a day and a half, we were unable to use water in the home. That meant no showers, no working toilets, no sinks, no laundry, and no way to wash dishes. The smell of sewage filled the entire house, making it extremely unpleasant and, at times, uninhabitable. What was most disappointing was Resort Realty's handling of the situation. We were repeatedly told they would contact the owners, but we never received any meaningful response. We were informed that the owners were "gracious" enough to approve emergency and after-hours maintenance, despite the fact that raw sewage was backing into the rental property. When maintenance arrived, they initially indicated there was little they could do and offered us a mop and bleach so we could clean up the sewage ourselves. No guest paying thousands of dollars for a vacation rental should ever be expected to perform that type of cleanup. After the issue was resolved, we contacted Resort Realty requesting reasonable compensation for the loss of use of the property and the significant inconvenience. Once again, we were told they would speak with the owners. Once again, we received no response. Accidents can happen, but how a company responds to those situations matters. Resort Realty failed to advocate for its guests, failed to provide meaningful communication, and failed to follow up regarding compensation after a serious health and sanitation issue disrupted our vacation. Based on this experience, we will never rent through Resort Realty again and would not recommend them to friends, family, or anyone looking for a stress-free beach vacation. If your idea of a vacation includes cleaning up raw sewage while receiving little support from property management, then Resort Realty may be the company for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
