Beware of inflated installation fees!
I have been a customer of Abt for more than 20 years and have purchased several major appliances from the store over those years. While their prices can be competitive and the selection of merchandise they offer is exceptional and the sales people are helpful and knowledgeable, I have noticed that the costs associated with delivery and installation have become extremely inflated and excessive. I recently purchased a GE Profile kitchen package during the company’s Labor Day Sale, totaling nearly $5000 after rebates, and store discounts. For delivery and installation, there was an additional $800 added on for installation materials for 4 appliances and removal and recycling of existing appliances. Even after the sales associated removed and lowered those charges, I was still left with approximately $650 in installation fees. For the refrigerator alone, I was charged $258 for a waterline and waterline kit and removal of my existing GE refrigerator. Comparable GE profile refrigerator kits can be found at GE, home improvement, and other online stores for between $18 and $50 for those same parts — a fraction of what Abt charges. I contacted customer service to ask if I could purchase those required parts myself and was told, “no,” I have to use their parts if Abt does the installation. After a little research, I found that Abt competitors that provide the same products, charge far, far less for installation, if at all. Lesson learned. Next I’ll shop where it won’t cost me close to 15% of the purchase price for installation.

Thank you for being a loyal Abt customer for more than 20 years. We do want to clarify that Abt’s standard drop-off delivery is free. The additional charges are for installation labor, required installation materials, and appliance removal/recycling. Regarding the refrigerator water line specifically, Abt does not simply connect a new refrigerator to an existing old line. Our installation includes running a brand-new water line and guaranteeing our work against water leaks. We need to use our parts because we stand behind our install against water leaks. Many competitors may charge less because they connect to the customer’s existing line, which can carry more risk depending the age of the line. We work hard to keep our installation pricing fair and competitive. We research our competitors pricing and feel we are more than fair while providing superior installation.
