Great Customer Service, Poor Therapy
On the plus side, Calmerry had great customer service. They are quick to reply (I never waited more than two minutes to talk to a rep in chat), and they quickly changed my therapist next day when I had a problem with my first one. That being said, I was initially matched with a counselor who specialized in men's issues and relationships--I am a woman who was seeking individual counseling. This counselor said she would check in twice a day (which was more than I expected), but she counted messages like, "What are your hobbies?" as a check in. I mentioned that I had resorted to old habits of using food to relieve stress and anxiety, which I wanted to fix, and she responded, "It sounds like you have developed some healthy ways of relieving stress," which led me to believe she was only skimming my messages. What made me switch off this counselor, however, was that she finally sent me a message of substance with a strategy, explanation, and then questions at the end, but I googled the strategy to get examples, and I found her exact message (questions included) on a website. She had copied and pasted the whole thing and passed it off as her own. Calmerry quickly switched me off of her (though I don't believe we were ever a "match" in the first place), but they excused the plagiarism, stating that they were sure she just wanted the strategy to be as clear as possible. For me, this hurt their credibility. I was paying quite a bit of money for someone to pass off an article I could have found myself on Google, rather than actually engage with me. My second counselor was better about actually reading what I wrote and responding, but I found it difficult to communicate clearly my issues and needs with her when we couldn't have a dialogue. It often felt like we weren't fully understanding each other. For example, I mentioned anxiety as a problem, and she gave me a strategy of blocking the thought that creates the anxiety and replacing it with a new one. Great in theory, but if I could just block the thought, I wouldn't need counseling. When I explained that I didn't know how to do this, she gave me an example of an anxious thought and example of the replacement thought, but never gave me any tools or steps to be able to get to that skill. All in all, I just don't think this kind of therapy is for me

Hello, Courtney. Thanks for sharing your honest feedback. We truly appreciate it. We were glad that the issue was resolved, however, we are deeply sorry that it occurred in the first place. We take all comments into serious consideration and surely this kind of behavior from the counselor's side will be negotiated. We will make sure these actions never happen again. Keep in mind that you can ask for a new counselor even if you are not quite fully satisfied with the second one. We want to get the best possible connection with your provider, so feel free to contact our Support Team whenever you have any questions. Our team works 24/7 for you.
