I purchased the product in the beginning of my dissertation. I read about Endnote in one of my research books. I believe the product would work great for me if I had time and a teacher to show me how to maximize it for me. I did not have time to write and review how-to videos. I would say be sure you know how to use it before purchasing it.

The desktop version for Mac crashes routinely. I gave up using it and only use the online version.

Endnote often makes Word freeze up if a cite is changed in the document prior to opening Endnote. Very annoying. I have to use Task Manger to hard stop Word whenever this occurs.

Document import not intuitive. Convoluted. I continue to use Mendeley and Zotero intuitively, simply and freely. Not sure why I paid for convolution?

Meh. I write scientific manuscripts and grants for a living and have not used EndNote in over 20 years. Recently, I have started working with several large clients that use it. Frankly, it's the pits. It's overpriced, isn't compatible with OneDrive/the cloud, and is clunky when citing directly from your browser. As it's so expensive, it's baffling that free products such as Zotero and Mendeley are so much better in every way. I just spent $247 for the program and now I've got to spend another $150 or so to upgrade to a cloud-compatible version. It screws up my documents in sometimes inexplicable ways, in which even tech support can't figure out, costing me well over $1000 in lost time and work since downloading in Feb 2023. I'm not sure why large institutions go all in on EndNote, leaving employees/researchers stuck with a crummy tool that isn't user friendly. Stick to Zotero if you don't need to work in Word Online or Mendeley if you do.

Too expensive for the service offered.

Software misformats some APA 7 references (ex. Multiple authors). This is inexcusable. It also is next to impossible to manually edit references that are misformatted without chaos ensuing (your software overrides user corrections). Software interface is very dated/awkward and does not integrate well with programs like Microsoft Word.

Lacks Intuition This is not an intuitive piece of software. I consider myself fairly skilled at using new computer programs and this one is extraordinarily and unnecessarily complicated. The interface feels antiquated and clunky--many, many clicks to get anything done. I am required to use it for my academic program, but I hope the rest of you have the option to use a different program.
