Disappointing experience: Disrespectful Treatment of Research Participants
As an academic, I participated in a research study for EndNote to test new features and provide detailed feedback in exchange for a symbolic incentive. I thoroughly tested all the features and submitted comprehensive feedback. However, I was later informed that I had not completed the study, which is simply not true, and I never received the promised incentive. I also contacted them to withdraw my consent, but received no response. I find this treatment of participants, who are also part of their core target, highly disappointing and disrespectful. Based on my experience using Endnote and trying to help them by participating in their UX research, I cannot recommend EndNote to my students, colleagues or anyone else. I have also shared my concerns with the institutions I am affiliated with. Instead, I would strongly recommend considering Zotero as an alternative.
