DON'T CALL THEM RIPPED ME OFF! Called Michael and Son because our air conditioner was not cooling our house. The technician Chad Smith came to my house because air conditioner not working, he stated the unit was running hot and he the stated that the capacitor went bad and when I replaced the capacitor, the compressor still did not start so he threw a hard start on to jump it and it started right up. Compressor is running a really high head pressure and really hot. He stated the airflow was good. No airflow restrictions my refrigerant good everything else is working correctly and my compressor is just struggling to run running at high amperage and high head pressure. he stated he think an internal compressor winding is going bad causing it to partially pump. he stated the parts he put on the unit will was now working and the house should be cooling now and he stated he stated he was not doing the compressor repair due to price and age of system, but we will send quotes for a new unit, but in the meantime the air was working and would start cooling the house. After about 2 hours the house was still really hot and I called them immediately called them because air still not working and I paid him under the understanding the parts he put on was working and the air was coming on, they sent another tech, who stated the compressor was completely shot and the parts they put on it will not make it work. He stated I need to replace the compressor at over $5000+ or replace the entire unit at over $20000+. I could not afford that so he had me Pay $303.00 for diagnostics and parts to at least get the air working until I can replace the unit. I asked for a refund for the parts they just put on and told me my air was working but was not. He stated i had to call the office to get refund, we called the office and they stated the manager would call us back. He never called me back and manager would not speak to us and just sent messages though the technician and was told by the tech to advise us we are not getting the money back even though the parts he put on did not make the air work as the first tech told us was working when I paid him. FILED COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB, HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO YOUR COMMUNITY!

The technician Jake Brown knows his stuff, is efficient and very personable. Was there on 20th to install new water heater and toilet. I was very satisfied neat and efficient. Came back on the 3rd quick call as toilet needed adjustment something started sticking evaluated and fixed in minutes.

I’ve used Michael & Son for over 5 years - HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Average work technically but, I recommend avoiding the company. They look for potential expensive installations and/or upgrades and work to convince that you need them. Avoid.

"Completely taken advantage of. Illegal practices." My air conditioner went out on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, an HVAC technician from All American Heating and Air-Conditioning diagnosed the issue as a fault within our whole-home generator's load shed panel. Here are the HVAC technician notes: "07/08/2026. Demand no cool call. Homeowner informed me that both systems outdoor units were off today. Neighbor met me on site. I found the 2nd floor system running on arrival, the 1st floor is off. I set the 1st floor to run in cooling mode, the indoor unit turns on, but the outdoor unit is off. I checked power and high voltage is not present at the outdoor unit. High voltage comes from the breaker panel outside, through the disconnect box, through the generator board, and then to the system. The generator board is cutting power for some reason, no display lights present on this board. I advised homeowner we do not work on generator equipment. Homeowner plans to address this. Diagnostic charge only today." I called Michael & Son (who installed the generator), read those technician notes verbatim, and requested help fixing the issue. They sent an electrician. When the electrician arrived, he knew nothing about the notes I had provided. Furthermore, he replaced a breaker without my consent as part of his "diagnostic workup." It didn't fix the issue and he was stumped. It wasn't until I manually showed him the previous technician's notes that he finally located the exact same issue ten minutes later--only to tell me I needed to hire a generator specialist anyway. To make matters worse, I was charged nearly $700 for the service call and the unauthorized breaker--an item the electrician openly admitted did not solve the problem. Performing and charging for unauthorized repairs is completely unacceptable. Furthermore, he said he would "comp" the breaker (I didn't need nor authorize) if I would buy a whole home surge protector from them or sign up for their "membership." I am incredibly disappointed and expect management from Michael & Son to reach out and rectify this situation immediately.

Our technician Dameon Preston provided work options with estimated cost, found the source of the sewer pipe problem, was considerate on demolition of wall to minimize repair cost, surgically removed and replaced damaged pipe, tested to ensure quality of work, removed debris and cleaned up the work area very very well. Dameon presented himself as confident, knowledgeable with the trade, very respectful to the homeowners, and strikes us as someone you can trust. He had to work going up and down 3 floors, and we did not have to watch over his work activities at all. Definitely deserves a 5+Star Rating Diane C Haubner

I wouldn’t recommend this company, they are overpriced their ac& heating technician is incompetent and doesn’t know what they are doing.i had a brand new unit installed and all the Freon leaked out and it wasn’t covered under warranty because the warranty is only for one year knowing the unit is seasonal and one year warranty is a ripoff and wanted to charge me$700 to add Freon.if anyone looking to purchase a ac/heat pump negotiate for two warranty.

AVOID Michael & Sons (M&S) After more than 20 years as a loyal customer, this has been one of the most mentally and financially stressful experiences. M&S performed defective work, failed county inspection, and did nothing to rectify their faulty, malfunctioning work. In July 2025, a leak in my basement ceiling led their restoration team to open the drywall and discover a drain pipe installed with the slope inverted—meaning water literally had to flow upward to drain. Their own technicians confirmed it was installed incorrectly. When I reviewed my records, I found that Michael & Son installed this plumbing during my prior basement remodel. I also located the Fairfax County inspection report rejecting the work at the time and requiring the drain lines be reworked due to improper slope. (but clearly M&S didn’t). Because this defect was never corrected, our basement suffered water damage and mold contamination. Despite providing the contract, inspection report, and documentation, the company has refused to take responsibility. After months of unanswered emails, shifting explanations, and no resolution, I’ve had to take legal action; a huge expense on top of what I’ve already paid M&S. Extremely disappointing from a company that markets itself as family oriented and quality workmanship.

Exceptional service, friendly staff, very reliable, had my one series in with this company as it failed the NCT with high emissions, went to two other garages an they couldnt help, said it couldnt be fixed, it was no problem for the lads to fix it at a reasonable price
