I purchased 6 Haylen Dimmable lights for the exterior of my home in 2022 when it was being remodeled. I am now severely regretting that decision. The lights have not held up to the SoCal weather and sun at all. The only nice thing - they still turn on. The bad thing - they look horrible and I now need to replace them. I would not recommend Mod Lighting for anyone thinking about outdoor lights.
If I could attach before and after pictures to illustrate the issue(s), I would.

I am not a customer
I am not a customer. I wanted to be based on the reviews. However, it turns out that all of their outdoor lights use LED Light Bands that cannot be replaced. They said they should last "a few years". So what happens after that? They must go to a landfill and you start over. Really short-sighted.
Response from MOD LIGHTING· Sep 24, 2025
Hi Mark,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We’d like to clarify that it’s not true that all of our lights use non-replaceable LED bands. Our fixtures use LEDs that are replaceable. If you had checked our website or reached out to our support team, we would have been happy to explain this in detail.
You can see this information for yourself by visiting any product page on our site, scrolling down to the Dimensions & Specs section. There, you’ll find details on each light’s specifications, including the light source and whether it’s replaceable.
We hope this clears things up, and we’d be glad to assist further if you have any questions.

I would think twice before purchasing…
I would think twice before purchasing anything from this company, they promised to deliver purchased lights and they did not show up even close to being on time. When they did finaly arrive, they were packaged in styrofome only. The light came from China. Not a bad thing, just misrepresented by way of their web site. They do not disclose that they have to come from China, not their warehouse in the states.

Hi Gary,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear about your experience, and we’d love the opportunity to make things right.
To begin, could you please share your order number with us? This will help us look into the details and provide a more accurate resolution.
We’d also like to clarify that MOD Lighting operates globally, with warehouses in North America (New York), as well as in Asia. Depending on stock availability and order volume, items may be shipped from any of our fulfillment centers. Our goal is always to ensure your lighting arrives as efficiently and securely as possible.
As for the packaging, we understand it might appear minimal, but the use of styrofoam is intentional - it’s proven to be the most protective material to safeguard our fixtures from travel-related damages, especially given their delicate structure.
We appreciate your patience and the opportunity to address this further once we have your order information.

Cheap products and costly return practices.
Their products look much better on their website than they do when they finally show up at your door. If you wonder why their products are so inexpensive it's because they are cheaply made. While they offer at 60 day return policy, they do not want you to return their product. I asked for a return on two lights i had purchased that were not what I expected and didn't work out, they gave me an address in China to return them to at my own expense. I pressed them and got an address in Canada. They do not accept returns within the United States, so you're stuck paying out of pocket to ship returns Internationally. Beware of this company.
Update with more info since they replied below. Order number was 62956. The first return address I was offered was (note that fedex said the zip code was invalid but later USPS was able to handle it):
488 University Avenue
Suite 4307
Toronto, Ontario
M5G 0C1
Canada
Since it was international and neither the country of sale or country of origin, I pressed and they then offered this address.
Return Address for Haylen:
Attention To: DENG CHAOQUAN
Address: #16 GONGYE 2 ROAD, CAOSAN, GUZHEN TOWN
City: Zhong Shan
Province: Guang Dong
China Postal Code: 528421
Tel: 13318290755
At no point did they offer their New York address as a return address. I assume the New York address is a mailbox they use to appear as a legitimate US company, but do not actually operate out of.
Please note they also charge a 10% restocking fee on returns after you have paid international shipping rates to send them back. When I saw the quality of the first two items and the hassle to return them, I attempted to cancel the third light I had bought, since it didn’t show as shipped yet, but I was told it couldn’t be cancelled. I don’t use that light either in my house as I found a much nicer product for the room at a local retailer for half the price.
Beware.
Update July 2023: A representative of Mod Lighting reached out to me in June after I posted this review. They offered to refund the second light I purchased. They followed through with the refund, so now I'm only out the international shipping charges I paid to return two of the lights to Toronto. While I'm happy to receive the refund for the light I kept and never returned (it wasn't worth the hassle), I'll note that it took posting this review to get real service from the company. I still think this is a foreign company attempting to appear as a US brand. I think it's also worth mentioning that following the refund, they would call 3-4 times in a row on a weekly basis to make sure I was going to update this review, it was a bit much considering I had family in town and then got sick. Updating review from 1 star to 2 stars.

Buy only if you enjoy giving away money
We bought 6 Haylen OUTDOOR mod lights based on their 100% satisfaction guarantee and claim of waterproof rating. Once received, two different electricians refused to install them due to the lack of UL certification in addition to a non functional design for an outdoor application. The fun part is trying to get your money back. Mod lighting dissuaded us from returning. How? They just kept sending the same response back saying the lights work and here are all the different certifications that aren’t UL certified. After we got frustrated and said that we would reverse credit card charges, we received info on how to return them. To ship them back to Canada, it cost $180 to ship 3 boxes that weighed 12lbs. They tacked on a 10% restocking fee so the whole experience cost $265. Our neighbor also bought these lights and had exactly the same experience. To be fair, they did return the purchase minus the restocking fee. But beware of how much it costs to ship items back to Canada (from the US) and the ensuing run around from customer service. We rarely write reviews and tried to leave a review on Mod’s site but they apparently deleted it … which is how we got suckered into buying them in the first place.
11-25-22 update: After seeing Mod Lighting’s response below, we waited for this email about the restocking fee. Nothing. So we emailed them and cut/pasted their reply. Mod Lighting confirmed that they would refund the restocking fee and asked if we would update (or remove) our negative rating. We are still waiting for this refund of the restocking fee. Once this refund goes thru we would be happy to update our opinion of how customer returns are handled.
12-1-22 update: Mod Lighting refunded the restocking fee as promised. Ideally, they would've also paid the $180 return as most ecommerce sites handle shipping returns especially under a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Hence, still the lower 2 star rating.

Hello Winthrop, we are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the service we offered! We do sincerely apologize for having you return the parcels to Canada, we only had a return depot in Canada previously when you requested the return, however, we are excited to announcement our new US return depot which will be effective starting Dec 1, 2022 and customers who are not satisfied with their purchases can return their parcels to our US return depot. That said, we were unaware that the return cost of your shipment would cost that much, as the parcels are really small. That said, we are also happy to waive the restocking fee, and have sent you an email with regards to that! Your refund was already processed by the team as well on Nov 16th, 2022. Thanks again for your business!
