They discriminate against the small coin collector. I sent them two coins for first day of issue and they said they could only do that for dealers, but they were more than happy to charge $18 per coin for “early releases“ the coins I sent in were mint, never opened from the US mint. They came back as an MS 69 where they were definitely ms 70s. They give the coin dealers favorable grading, and favorable treatment where the little guy gets screwed. Stay away from these guys. They are unprofessional and take way too long and are ridiculously expensive.

⭐ PCGS — Extremely Disappointed. Over 90 Days to Grade Coins and an Unbelievable Result!
My experience with PCGS has been absolutely terrible.
My family has owned an original, unopened bank roll of 1943 pennies since 1943. Let me make this perfectly clear: THIS ROLL HAS NEVER BEEN OPENED. These pennies have remained preserved in their original bank roll for more than 80 years.
I told my wife that I wanted to conduct an experiment. I had been hearing all the complaints about PCGS, and I wanted to find out for myself whether people were justified in criticizing them. So we submitted a couple of pennies from our family's collection for grading.
First, PCGS took over 90 days to grade my coins, despite an advertised turnaround time of 50 days. Then came the result that left me absolutely stunned: the coins came back designated as CLEANED.
How can pennies from a bank roll that I know has never been opened receive that designation? These coins have been part of our family since 1943, and I know their history.
I sent these coins to PCGS expecting professional expertise, accuracy, and integrity. Instead, I received a result that I cannot reconcile with the history and condition in which these coins were preserved.
After this experience, I understand why so many collectors are frustrated. I spent my time and money expecting the best, only to come away questioning the reliability of the entire process.
PCGS is supposed to be one of the leading names in coin grading. In my experience, the service fell far short of that reputation. Taking more than 90 days and then returning a result like this is unacceptable to me.
I am extremely disappointed, I have lost confidence in PCGS, and I cannot recommend their service based on this experience. Collectors deserve timely service, accurate evaluations, and clear explanations when a grading decision does not make sense.
I submitted these coins to see for myself whether the complaints were justified. Unfortunately, my experience has left me with more questions than answers.

Lazy use of the Details-Cleaned label
I sent eight coins all over 100 years old in for grading. Of course these coins have surface scratches. The grading scale is designed to account for gradual loss of luster and microscopic surfaces scratches. Labeling them all as ‘details-cleaned’ is lazy and false. I no longer trust PCGS with my coins.

Poor grading service
I sent two coins in for grading and identifying as errors. The first coins is a 1982 P Kennedy 50c with no FG on back. CERT #54781333 You tell me. The grade came back as AU58, the grade is fine however PCGS states that they see the FG on the coin. I only found this out by calling to ask about the notes. According the PGCS standards it must no be visible at 5x. Using there high resolution pictures online you can clearly see that there is NO FG on the back. PCGS has been accused in the past of purposefully misrepresenting coins to their advantage. I am not saying that his is what happened. I did file a complaint BEFORE the were sent out FEDEX and while they were in finial checks. Funny enough though about an hour after submitting the complaint online they submitted a FEDEX tracking number. "Suspicious". I called them and told them I do not agree with their assessment. I was told to send them back at MY COST and if they found they were misrepresented they would reimburse me the shipping and no charge for the change. If thee kept the same issued assessment I would be charged.
I declined as that was not fair.
The second coin they said out right that it was a counterfeit. It was a US Quarter 2001 P Vermont. The irony is they still uploaded High resolution pictures as a side by side. I asked why they felt it was a counterfeit, The rep said there were no notes and they do not disclose how they came to this conclusion.
When you look at the coin you can see the cladding and it was a double die brake.
I was charged $107.00 for this and I will never use them again for these services. Please look at BB they have a D- recorded with no resolved cases. I should have done my due diligence in finding a grading service.

Terrible Service
I submitted 6 coins for grading. I was told 5 would be 'normal' service at $40 per coin (plus shipping and handling) and 1 would be 'economy' which will save $16. Five of the 6 coins were previously graded and slabbed by a 3rd rate grading firm. They refused to acknowledge my package for more than a month but started the grading process 6 weeks in. Calls to customer service went no where. For the 5 coins graded with 'normal service', 4 were returned marked 'cleaned' but mint state although they were previously slabbed and graded.
The 6th coin - the economy grading - graded AU although it was clearly mint state. Ok I can deal with it - bad grading - I will break it out of the slab. But to make matters worse, they charged me $28 shipping and $10 handling to return the single coin - so much for saving $ having one moved to 'economy' at their suggestion. I will be breaking 5 of 6 coins out of their new slabs and will never use PCGS again. Expensive lesson.

Garbage company
Garbage company! I switched to NGC.
I shouldn't even have to spend my time writing this complaint because I always believed PCGS was the best coin grading company in the industry. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong. I submitted my coins through PCGS's walk-in grading service in early May 2026. My order wasn't even entered into processing until late May. As of today, August 3, 2026, my order is still not complete, even though it is well past the processing timeframe that PCGS advertised. What's even more frustrating is the complete lack of customer service. I have called their customer service line multiple times on different days of the week, and no one ever answers. I followed their instructions to leave my information and request a callback, but I never received one. It feels like there is no way to reach anyone for an update. I chose PCGS because of its reputation, but my experience has been extremely disappointing. The advertised turnaround times are misleading, and their customer support is essentially nonexistent. If you're considering using PCGS, don't rely on the processing times posted on their website. Based on my experience, those estimates were not honored, and there was no communication to explain the delay. Looking back, I wish I had submitted my coins to NGC instead.
