I am glad I got my DNA analysed and purchased a lifetime subscription (using the excellent Black Friday deal). I am impressed by the level of detail, what I hadn’t expected was that some of my personality traits are written in my DNA: this gives me a feeling of legitimacy in ways I am different to others. There’s a high level traffic light system giving overviews of various body systems. My son’s profile was all green with one amber, whilst mine was mostly amber with some red: I knew my body needs a lot of care, and I’m much more sensitive than others (can’t take caffeine, alcohol, lack of sleep, etc)… now I have understanding of what is different, plus ways to address it. The fact that I’m 96th centile for developing diabetes gives me more motivation to watch my sugar intake and diet, and there are also ways I can support my thyroid, which is also highly likely to become under active (based on probability of my genes, recent blood test results). There’s more data than I can read, I appreciate the detail on specific SNPs, but there are high level summaries for people who prefer that.

I am so thankful for this service. I love having the ability to look deeper into my health without having a doctor tell me a certain test isn't necessary. I have had many conversations with friends, family and co-workers who are having numerous negative experiences with doctors. I refer them to this site and similar ones.

Having some health issues, I feel like I have a better understanding of what labs to take instead of just shooting in the dark. The UI makes understanding the data pretty straight forward. It also has been accurate for confirmed ailments that I have. It feels good to be able to get a better idea on what improvements to make as well. Updates come regularly with new health reports. I'd say 23andMe is good for basic info and the ancestry. But if you want detailed information and reports that go over the whole body, SelfDecode is the better investment. Overall, couldn't be more pleased with the service.
