With Committed Coaches I can do this and so can you!
Let me introduce myself. I am a retired 72-year-old woman, even though that number sounds like it belongs to someone else. No way can I be that old! Not sure how, or when, that happened!! I am quite healthy and active. No significant health problems, although I'm watching my blood pressure and my cholesterol but, so far, no need for medication. However, I have struggled with my weight since my first pregnancy over 40 years ago. At first, I joined Weight Watchers and was careful about eating and slowly but eventually I was able to get to my goal weight. Again and again. Then I couldn't lose without also adding exercise. But for the past few years even that hasn't been working. I routinely walked 3-7 miles most days and was somewhat careful with my eating but have been very frustrated with my creeping weight...in the wrong direction! So when I read about Committed Coaching I was desperately wanting help and willing to try something new. I signed up just before embarking on a 4-week trip with friends to Costa Rica. Crazy! Not the ideal time or place to start a new program, but I was afraid of how much I would gain while I was away. And I was fed up and desperate!! What I was doing wasn't working. I was matched with a coach and talked with him a few days before leaving. I explained the difficulties I would be having trying to keep to this program while away, but he said we'd work through them and he'd help as best he could. He sent me lots of resources, answered my questions, explained the program, and was very supportive and positive. Between being restricted to the limited inventory of foods available in the small local grocery store and the lack of availability of many foods I'm used to made planning and eating according to the protocols of the program challenging. I had no car and, unfortunately, my access to Internet was also sporadic. I also had friends who were cooking and eating which was often hard for me to pass up! I've been on the program now for 4 weeks and have lost only 2 pounds. All of the above is why I think I've had a slow start, despite walking 5 miles everyday on the beach. But, I didn't gain weight, so given the circumstances that's a win! I'm back home now and looking forward to further exploring all the resources available: A variety of food plans and options, recipes, exercise plans and videos, tutorials, classes, and groups that I didn't have the time or space (or Internet connection) to take full advantage of until now. The support and encouragement I've gotten from my coach, Rod, has been invaluable. He's always available and responds quite quickly. He takes you where you are, helps you understand the program, and simultaneously celebrates your wins while gently, persistently nudges you to do more or/and better. Step by step, little by little. Through the program and with his explanations I'm beginning to see why what I had been doing before wasn't working. For example, the reason why the 5 miles I've been walking almost every day hasn't resulted in more weight loss is because my body has gotten used the that and needs to be challenged with something different. The group chats have also been extremely useful. Rod starts with something he wants to teach us or challenge us to do, which is very helpful in and of itself. Then he opens it up to comments and questions from the group. I'm surprised what I can learn from their successes and challenges and little tips they've discovered. I am excited about finally having the time and space and control of my life to really incorporate this program/philosophy into my life. I have no doubt that not too many months from now I will finally reach, and be able to maintain, a healthy weight and lifestyle. I have faith in my coach to help guide me, encourage me, gently push me, and keep me accountable. He's my personal cheerleader as well as task master, using positive reinforcement and encouragement to keep me motivated and on the path. With all this personal attention and support, I can do this...and so can you!!
