Their CSRs are apparently empowered to lie their faces off to you.
Xfinity as a cable company (associated with Comcast, let's don't forget that part) is about what you'd expect from a cable company. You know they're going to nickel and dime you anywhere they can, it comes with the territory with broadband utilities in this country. What was the real surprise for me was the mobile arm of their business. I first signed up in 2024 as part of a bundle deal to keep my business after they tried to raise my internet by an egregious degree. I was unhappy with my carrier and switched for the deal, under terms that are fairly typical for a mobile phone bundle: you get the phone included by agreeing to a contract for the service, with the implicit understanding that if you're happy with the service, then you're likely to reup with a trade-in later on down the line. Xfinity doesn't do it like other mobile phone companies do it, though. You are going to be paying for that phone whether you decide to keep it instead of trading it in for a new contract deal, or not. They will charge you for it over the course of many months, added to your mobile bill, and if you try to cancel the service then you will be billed for the full balance due on the phone. The 'free' phone that you already paid taxes for. This is after the contract is up, mind. If you go back through your emails you will find the small print in the contract that lets them get away with this. Don't ever expect to hear this from the mouths of the CSRs who are selling you this nonsense, no matter how carefully you think you questioned them. It's perfectly fine for them to straight up lie to you about it! They are in an overseas call center using fake names so there's not anyone who is going to catch trouble for lying to you, and they know it. They can even try to get you to sign up for a second line to get the new deal offered on the website for a much lower service cost for adding a second line when you call them to find out how to lower your data plan on the original phone. But guess what? You're still paying for that original phone! The one that was supposedly included with the original contract that you already met the obligations for! And! You're still paying for that original line too, only it's more expensive now! Yeah, they lie. They expect to get away with it. Don't sign up with this company, it's not worth it. I do still like the phone they sold me, though. Finally seeing the back of them with an extra full price payment this month, even though the phone was fully paid off last month. Good riddance to them. Never again.
