I am a 47 year old man in good shape
I am a 47 year old man in good shape, exercise regularly and watch my diet. Upon my yearly physical my Dr. recommended a colon screen. Reluctantly I agreed to a Cologuard test. The test came back positive. Being in the shape I am in I immediately started on the defensive. I started looking for reasons to believe I was not positive, it was the accuracy of the test, I questioned. I took solace in reading all the false positive reviews, as it put me in a comfortable mindset, after all, it couldn't happen to me?! So 3 weeks after the Cologuard test came back, I went had my colonoscopy performed. Coming out of the procedure I was informed of 3 polyps, and one mass thought to be cancerous. My polyps were 2CM, 1CM, 1CM, and my rectal mass was 1.4CM. My pathology report came back today stating all polyps were negative for cancer, and the mass is precancerous. We will perform additional steps to remove the mass completely. Had I waited, or not taken the tests, and precautions my result will have been deadly. If there are false positives, so be it. It's a sensitive test. Better safe than sorry. IMO looking back I wish I would have scheduled the colonoscopy rather than being frightened for three weeks
